Ecommerce

Over the years, I have experienced alot of things in the land of the Internet and Ecommerce. I have witnessed ideas that have flourished and ones that have not. From time to time, I will add articles that discuss my ideas and visions for this Industry.

Electronic Commerce has become a vital part of our everyday lives. It makes our shopping experience much easier especially when were looking for specific products, viewing promotions, searching for discounts, etc... Over the years, I have had the privilege of developing and designing e-commerce web sites. Furthermore, I have witnessed various life cycles of this relatively new media. In the beginning, it was Banners, Banners and more Banners. Then it was Paid Advertising (PPC Ads), then Affiliate Programs and now the Buzzword for the ages is Search Engine Optimization. Today, a smart Online Marketing Manager needs to utilize (all) of those online services to establish a well-balanced Marketing campaign which will encompass much of the market share to outsmart their respected competitors.

When I started developing web sites in 1997, Banner ads were the hottest fad on the web. CEO's wanted the most animated, creative, most "attention getting" ads out there. Then 6 months later, they wanted interactive ones such as "Punch the Monkey", etc... Then came Rich media banners which are basically built-in HTML banners where a customer can perform a search right away form that remote location. To go even further, Companies such as Doubleclick, uses "cookie technology" to track a users habits, demographics, psychographics and so on. Now these banners are non-existent and other methods such as Search Engine Optimization, Paid Inclusion, Affiliate Programs and PPC Search Engines have taken "center stage" in the world of Online Marketing Methods.
