Creating Customized Wine Labels

In the January, 2004 Edition of Wine Maker Magazine, I was lucky enough to win 1st Honorable Mention in their Wine Label Competition. My brother-in-law who has become a very crafted winemaker himself, carrying on the tradition of Italian Wine Making from his father, brought up the idea to me to enter this contest. Over the course of 15 years being in my wife's family, I have designed Wine Labels for Family functions such as "My Own Wedding", Engagement Parties, Anniversaries and even as far as to design them for Family back in Italy. I guess when you are the only Creative person who knows how to use Photoshop and see a Glass of Chocolate Milk instead of a Glass of water that is half full (or half empty), these opportunities just present themselves to you.

The response was great! Everyone was amazed at the wine labels, since they all of their homemade wine labeling was subject to ripped masking tape with the date and style on them. Well, after about 5 minutes of deep comtemplation, I decided to give it a shot. Furthmore, the (1) one thing that my experience and years in College have taught me, is if I want to stand out from the rest of the competition, I would have to do something completely different and something very unique. Surprisingly enough, I gave it a Star Wars theme that even George Lucas would appreciate (minus the trademark/copyright infringement - sorry). I figured if Lucas can merchandise Chewbacca Shampoo, why not a Wine Label.
